The Last Christian Review & Giveaway

I’m not usually one to read science fiction type books that much, but I have to say this book actually was interesting to me and honestly, full of suspense.  The Last Christian, by David Gregory, is a story that I could honestly see coming true.  America has changed, and not for the better.  It seems that Christianity has disappeared, and virtual reality abounds.  From neural implants, to the Grid, to articifical intelligence, this book is every science fiction fan’s dream.  Plus, to me, it seemed that the author inserted things into the storyline and concepts/ideas that I see abounding even today, let alone in the future.

Abby Caldwell has just emerged from the jungles of Papua New Guinea for the first time in her whole life; she’s 34 years old, and it’s 2088.  As she makes her way out to civilization, she’s racing to get help for her village, all of whom are dying from some unknown sickness or disease.  Abby doesn’t make it in time, though; her village dies before she can make it back to them.  This starts a whole new chapter in Abby’s life, though, as she realizes that God is calling her to another place and really, to another world.  He is calling her to go to the United States, a land where to even speak of Christianity could land her in jail.  Her grandfather’s message makes it clear, though, that he firmly believes she is the one who will bring the good news of Christianity back to the world.

As the story goes on, there are so many twists and turns, good people and bad that Abby will encounter.  As she digs deeper into the mystery of how her grandfather, who was such a strong Christian, could be caught up in the scientific world of artificial intelligence (he was a neuroscientist), she begins to tie the different ends together.  The mysterious illness that led to her village’s death seems to be tied to all of the mess she has encountered within the U.S.  Danger lurks in every corner for Abby, yet she’s confident that what God has called her to do, He will make a way.

I definitely recommend this book, and to tell the truth, I’m still reading the last parts of it.  It’s been a hard book to put down.  It almost reminds me of a storyline, similar to The Matrix, or along those lines.  You can read an excerpt here, and you can purchase this book for $14.99 from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group.

The book, Forgiveness, Breaking the Power of the Past. A recent Barna study indicated that many of the unchurched have had a bad church experience which needs Christ’s healing and forgiveness. I pray many find it.
