20 Pounds of Brown Sugar

June 3rd, 2011 — 6:30am

Remember in Anne of Green Gables when Matthew brought home 25 pounds of brown sugar, simply because he was too shy, at first, to ask the storekeeper about a dress for Anne? I will always remember what Marilla said when he hefted that huge bag into her kitchen….”20.pounds.of brown sugar!” (emphasis on sugar)

Well, my dad kinda had a moment like this a few weeks ago. He brought home a 50 pound bag of sweet onions (which he bought for about $4.50 at a sale), giving us several to bring home with us. Yum!Of course, there were also the farm fresh eggs, which have been so delicious….there’s nothing like farm fresh for sure.Happy summer, dear readers!

Spring Was Made for Picnics

April 28th, 2011 — 11:49pm

Picnics are just the essence of spring, aren’t they? Spring was made for catching butterflies….Spring was made for picnics on a quilt, basking in the warmth of the sunshine….Spring was made for lazy days in the sun….Spring was made for spending time with the ones you love….

Supposed “Benefits” of Home Ownership

April 7th, 2011 — 3:53pm

I recently read a brochure in a magazine, which shall remain nameless, and I became very upset the more that I read. This brochure was put out by the National Association of Realtors, and it’s called The Field Guide to the Benefits of Home Ownership. As I read on and on, it was as if a huge guilt trip was being pulled over me, all because we don’t own our own home….we rent. There, I said it….we rent. And I’m darn tootin’ proud of it….and I’ll tell you why in the next few paragraphs. Do we want our own home? Sure, we do. It’s not always that easy, though. Right now, our focus is on getting out of debt (the debt we mistakenly got into when we were first married, as well as debt from losing our first home) and saving money….so that when it is time for us to buy our own home, we’re ready. Frankly, I’m not that into “keeping up with the Joneses.”

What’s Your Niche?

January 22nd, 2011 — 6:34pm

Ok, so I wrote over on MamaBuzz about how my blogging mindset has just totally done a 180. I’ve been truly considering how I can find my niche with this, my personal blog, here at Real Heart Prints. So, I’m going to turn this blog into a homemaking frenzy of blogging creativity.:)

Meaning that I’d like to turn this blog into more homemaking ideas and posts, crafting projects, recipes, family stuff, projects with my boys, home decor, etc. Not much will change, and I’ll have the occasional book review or product giveaway, but that giveaway will need to pertain to either crafting, homemaking, or food.:) Excited?! Me too!

Occasionally, I’ll share my personal thoughts, even the darker side of my mind.:) But I’m hoping to share even more of these over on MamaBuzz, what with homeschool ideas, travel ideas, mom inspiration, etc.

I love you, dear readers!
