Heart of my Heart Review & Giveaway

April 9th, 2010 — 1:00am

Heart of my Heart: 365 Reflections on the Magnitude and Meaning of Motherhood, by Kristin Armstrong, is a meaningful devotional book for moms of all ages.  This devotional is one that speaks straight to mothers, to their innermost heart processes.  Full of encouragement, advice, and personal reflection, this book is definitely a positive resource to have on my bookshelf.

Only when you become a mother can you truly understand all of the trials, the joys, the happy tears, the sad tears…..everything that a mother goes through in raising her children.  Especially if you are a Christian mother, trying to raise your children to be “different,” to be Godly, in a rather ungodly world….this book can speak to your heart.  The author shares her own dependence on God as her Partner, as she is a single mother.  For me, this fact just made this devotional even more real to me, even more authentic, as I realized that the author was very real with the reader from the get-go, as she shared her own dependence on God.

With each month come devotions for each day of that month.  There are Scriptures to start out each day, and then the devotional portion.  The author uses personal reflections from her own life, spiritual realizations in her life as a mother, and Biblical examples of true faith.  The devotionals really feel as if they’re speaking right to me, as they’re very down to earth and very thought-provoking, especially in terms of spiritual growth as a mother.  One theme that continually came off the page for me was the fact that God needs to be first, and He needs to be the One I put my faith in and rely on to get me through each day, each moment.

You can purchase Heart of my Heart from Hachette Book Group for $16.99 or from Amazon for $11.55.  I definitely recommend this book, as it will be a resource you can use all year long, or one you can keep on your shelf, to pull down when you need a word of encouragement or motivation.

Motivate Me Monday- I Dare You

January 4th, 2010 — 8:09am
This weekend, I’ve seen so many statuses of parents anxious for their children to go back to school, so they can have a break….I’m not here to judge, believe me (every parent needs quiet time once in a while)….but this week, I dare you to….
I dare you to go out and make snow angels with your kids, if you have snow.  Who cares what the neighbors think?  Your children will remember this for years to come.  Get that sled out, and take them on the ride of their lives, whooping and hollering the whole way (ok, not too loud, because you might just embarrass them; maybe it’s payback time for all the Walmart tantrums, though.) LOL
If it’s warm where you live and rainy, put on the rainboots and go out and puddle splash with your kids….
I dare you to get down on the floor with your toddler and play cars with him, or take the time to read a story to her.
I dare you to talk to your kids about their dreams this week; even if their dreams constitute being a jedi in outer space or a princess in a huge castle, just listen….play dress-up with them, and make their dreams partly come true.
I dare you to create something with your kids; whether it be a cotton ball snowman or a playdough bowl of spaghetti, create away!
I dare you to take your teens out to lunch, to wherever they want to go; then maybe pick up some munchies, and have a movie night with them.
I dare you to be a kid again!  Remember, it’s the simple things that really make our kids’ days.:)

Motivate Me Monday- Happy Mom

December 14th, 2009 — 1:15am
This is going to be a quickie today….I have friends who have struggled with infertility, and this is a verse I found this week that I shared with another friend and thought I’d share it with all of you.  I love this verse; it’s a promise from God….
He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children.  Praise the LORD- Psalm 113: 9 (NIV).
I hope this encourages someone today and motivates all mothers, no matter if you struggle with infertility or not, to hang in there.  We all go through rough patches (as I’ve been going through a bit of one myself lately, not with infertility….other things), but God can give us happiness.  This Psalm is just centered all around praise and how big and strong and good He is; I think sometimes we have to praise Him, and through praising Him, we’ll see the blessings in any situation….just something He’s trying to teach me….Love you all.:)

Monday Motivation

December 15th, 2008 — 6:28am

Well, it’s Monday again, that blessed first day of the week after a busy weekend. This morning, there are so many things going on here in the Midwest. Up north, there are blizzards, and here we have ice coming down and very bitter cold. It’s kind of a hard morning to get motivated, but we can do it. In the spirit of Monday, I found some of my favorite comic strips and just had to share with you; hopefully, you can get a good laugh out of these and know that you are not alone in the journey we call motherhood. I have a feeling whoever writes this comic strip really does sort of “get us.”:) So, before you go off to start your Monday chores, take five and get this day started off right with a cheerful heart. Have a wonderful Monday!
